Held to help anyone who needs some tricks to harness their muse in these disruptive times. Then in June, we have a pair of week-long business workshops with Penny Sansevieri (Founder and CEO Author Marketing Experts, Inc., best-selling author and internationally recognized book marketing and media relations expert) to help published authors market their books as well as a month-long craft workshop on creating compelling characters with Ally Broadfield.

Joy. E. Held's fun course presents 50 ways to maintain your creative edge and keep the artistic juices flowing. We take a look at Leonardo da Vinci's methods for developing creative genius, how writer John Steinbeck utilized journal writing to stay focused on some of his greatest literary works, the science of where ideas come from, and much, much more. Participants will take part in activities and discussions and end the course with a list of resources and ideas to keep enthusiasm high and inspiration flowing. And yes, we will analyze Paul Simon's song "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover."

Building Your Street Teams - The Secrets to Selling More Books

You’ve probably heard the term “street team” thrown around a lot, when it comes to marketing. But how to you build this tribe of readers who loves everything you’ve written, shares your books with their followers, and can’t wait to get your next book? And what are the key differences between super fans and street teams?
This class will break down both and you’ll learn how to convert readers into one or both of these categories to help you get more reviews, as well as encouraging them to help you spread the word about your book!

Creating Compelling Characters
Active Class Dates: 6/02/20 - 6/28/20 (4 weeks)
Cost: $25 RWASD Members, $30 Non-RWASD Members
Characters are the key to writing a compelling story, so it is imperative that you focus on how you develop your characters. We'll study what psychologists have identified as the Big Five Model of Personality to help create relatable characters, consider some common romance tropes and which character flaws fuel them, talk about how to give your characters a sense of humor, discuss the importance of backstory as it relates to your character's flaws, and how these flaws are used to complete your character's arc for a satisfying ending to your story. We'll discuss examples from television, movies, and books to reinforce the lessons.

How to Sell Books by the Truckload on Amazon

When it comes to Amazon, everything matters – every single book you have on Amazon helps or hurts your optimization and this class will dig into optimizing your book(s) and how to maximize on Amazon’s free (and paid) tools.
Metadata, keywords, and Amazon’s backend systems are also something that are often misunderstood, and underused. This deep dive class will dig into all of the pieces that Amazon has to help you sell more books.
