Why Join RWA San Diego?
If you’re a current member of RWA San Diego, you probably got an email the other day from our lovely secretary, CJ Corbin, reminding you to log into myRWA and renew your annual chapter membership. If you’re on the fence about whether a membership is worth the cost, let me just say: it is! Let’s run through just a few of the benefits of being a member of the San Diego chapter.
The Meetings
I mean, have you seen the roster of speakers we’ve got lined up for 2017? An all-day workshop with James Scott Bell! The editorial director of Carina Press, Angela James! In less than two weeks, we’ll be hosting the incomparable Damon Suede. And we’ve got some other surprises in store. These monthly meetings are one of the only places in San Diego where you get to interact with experienced authors and publishing professionals in an intimate setting. Plus: lunch! (The chocolate mousse is to-die-for.)
The Facebook Group
Yes, RWA San Diego has a public Facebook page, but did you know that we also have a completely private and secret Facebook group that’s only for RWASD members who are in good standing? It’s a great place to ask for advice, share information, and stay connected with other chapter members between meetings. We’ve also got a super cool Sprinters group, designed to help increase your word count through team motivation and accountability.
The Opportunities
Our chapter offers so many opportunities for growth, for promotion, and for collaboration. Connect with other authors for mentorships or critique partnerships. (I found my critique partner – and good friend – through RWA San Diego!) Take one of our many informative classes at a discounted rate. Join in our special events, which often include signings and readings. And get listed on our public Facebook page and regional newsletter whenever you’ve got a release to promote.
The People
We spend so many hours secluded in our writing caves, but it’s important to get out in the sunshine every once in a while to connect with other writers – the only people who really know what you're going through in your journey toward publication. We offer each other support, celebrate our accomplishments, and help to make each other better writers. There’s truly no better feeling than knowing you’ve found your tribe. As for me, I paid my dues yesterday, and I’m looking forward to a whole year of fantastic programming, camaraderie, and fun.So don’t delay. Renew your RWA San Diego membership today. And we’ll see you at the monthly meeting!
